Bank Heist is one of two attack mini-games in Monopoly GO. Landing on a railroad on another player's board triggers a card flip that determines how much you steal — or whether the heist fails entirely. The multiplier you're rolling at when you hit the railroad directly determines the size of any successful heist.
How to Trigger Bank Heist
Bank Heist triggers when you land on a Railroad tile that belongs to another player. This only happens on other players' boards, not your own. The game selects which opponent's board you're on based on how many boards your token has traveled through.
The Card Flip: All Possible Outcomes
| Card Outcome | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Community Chest | Steals coins from all players simultaneously — the best possible outcome |
| Bankrupt | Steals all available coins from one specific targeted player |
| Mega Heist | Steals a large amount from 3 different players |
| Heist | Steals a moderate amount from 1–2 players |
| Mini Heist | Steals a small amount from one player |
| Failed Heist | Nothing stolen — the heist fails, often because targets are shielded |
How Multiplier Affects Your Heist
The multiplier you're rolling at when you land on the railroad scales the stolen amount directly. Rolling at 10x when triggering a Bankrupt card can steal 10× more coins than rolling at 1x for the same outcome. This is the core reason experienced players conserve high multipliers for moments when they're rolling through railroad-heavy sections of boards.
Timing a high multiplier roll to land on railroads is the single most impactful way to maximize Bank Heist earnings.
Shields and Bank Heist
When a targeted player has active shields on their board, a Bank Heist against them consumes one of their shields instead of stealing coins. This is why players with full shield stacks (3 shields) are effectively immune to Bank Heist until all shields are removed.
Before a heist triggers, the game shows which players are in your opponent pool. If all visible opponents have shields, the heist is likely to fail or yield minimal results. You can't control which opponents are targeted — the game assigns targets from your active neighbor list.
Bank Heist vs. Shutdown
Bank Heist (railroad) and Shutdown (utility tiles) are both attack mini-games, but they work differently:
- Bank Heist: Card-based random outcome. Can steal from multiple players. Amount scales with your multiplier.
- Shutdown: Dice roll determines the steal amount. Single target. Also multiplier-scaled.
Bank Heist has a higher ceiling (Community Chest hitting all players at high multiplier) but also carries the risk of a Failed Heist. Shutdown is more predictable — the dice roll outcome is less swingy than a card flip.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do you trigger Bank Heist in Monopoly GO?
Land on a Railroad tile on an opponent's board. Bank Heist only triggers on other players' boards — landing on your own railroad does not activate it.
What is the best Bank Heist outcome?
Community Chest — it steals from all players at once. At a high multiplier, this is the most lucrative single event in the game outside of major event bonuses.
Does multiplier affect Bank Heist?
Yes — the amount stolen scales with your active multiplier when you land on the railroad. Higher multiplier = larger heist.
Do shields protect against Bank Heist?
Yes — a shield on the target's board blocks the steal and is consumed instead. A player with 3 shields requires 3 heist hits before you can steal coins from them.
Why does Bank Heist fail sometimes?
The Failed Heist card is one of the possible flip outcomes. It can also appear when all targeted opponents have shields, since no coins can be stolen from shielded players.
